At the closing ceremony of the 27th International Congress of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (IIFCC World Laboratory Congress) in Brussels on 22 May 2025, the Yashobhoomi - India International Convention & Expo Centre (IICC) was officially announced as the venue for the 2026 World Laboratory Congress. Centre (IICC) in New Delhi, India, was officially announced as the venue for the 2026 World Laboratory Congress. The announcement signifies India's growing leadership in the field of clinical chemistry and laboratory medicine and highlights the international recognition of the country's efforts in these areas.
The 2025 Congress in Brussels attracted more than 4,000 delegates from over 100 countries. The 2026 conference is expected to see a similar scale of participation, with more than 40 per cent of the attendees likely to be international delegates. This will further cement India's position as a key destination for collaborative science and innovation.
According to India's Ministry of Tourism, the average domestic delegate spends around $278. Phil Chung, CEO of Kinexin Convention Management Pvt. Ltd. notes that the average cost of an international delegate is typically in the range of $3,000 to $5,000, a figure based on recent surveys in India and South Korea. Based on these estimates, the Organising Committee, in partnership with Yashubmi Operations, predicts that the 2026 event could generate direct delegate spending of around INR500 million to INR1 billion.
Yashubmi, India's premier venue for international conferences and exhibitions, will be the platform for this global event. At the official announcement ceremony in Brussels, Phil Chung and Nitin Chauhan, Head of Conventions Sales and Marketing, were present to take the baton as the next host city on behalf of New Delhi.
Dr. Rajiv Ranjan Sinha and Dr. Praveen Sharma, Co-Chairmen of the Organising Committee, were also present at the event. They expressed their enthusiasm for India hosting the event, saying it was a great honour to bring such an important scientific conference to the Yashubhumi venue, which symbolises India's ambitions on the global stage.
Commenting on the landmark event, Phil Jong said, "Yashubhumi is not just a venue, it is India's gateway to the global Meetings, Exhibitions and Events (MICE) industry. We are encouraged by the strong commitment of the Prime Minister and the Union Minister of Industry and Commerce, Piyush Goyal, to drive the growth of India's trade show and convention ecosystem. This national vision has been reflected in the various trade shows that Yashubmi has successfully hosted, prompting us to apply our global expertise to enhance this world-class centre, which was inaugurated by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, in September 2023."
With state-of-the-art infrastructure, sustainable architecture, cutting-edge technology and superior connectivity, Yashubhumi is fast emerging as one of Asia's leading conference destinations. Its selection as the venue for the IIFCC World Laboratory Congress 2026 is a testament to its world-class capabilities and India's growing reputation for international scientific exchange.
This 27th IIFCC World Laboratory Congress is expected to create significant opportunities for India's healthcare, diagnostics and medical technology sectors to interact and collaborate with global leaders in the field, besides facilitating high-level scientific discussions.
